Food Package Tailoring enables the clinic user to alternate food items based on the client’s preference.
The following are options available to the clinic user:
Option 1: Substitution/Combo
This option allows, portions of a food for example MILK cane substituted with
one or more food. This option is most often used across the nation.
Option 2: Broadband
This option offers the flexibility for the individual clients to choose the
specific food under a similar type of food at the time of purchase in a store,
rather than making the decision at the time of issuance.
Option 3: OR
This option allows the state or clinic to offer the client to choose either one food at the time of issuance, for example Enfamil formula OR Similac formula.
Option 3: Alternate (variation of OR)
This option allows the state or clinic to offer the client to choose either one food at the time of issuance, for example peanut butter or legume. This option is not supported by the eWIC host systems. For cost containment or nutrition reasons, state agency may choose to implement a variation of this rule, which is by implementing alternating between two foods. For example, peanut butter will be issued Month 1 and legume will be issued Month 2, then peanut butter again for the Month 3, and so on within a Certification period.
Food Package Tailoring allows more than two alternative choices, but typically alternative choices are between two foods.
Any Food Package having an alternate food will show the default order in the column with the name “Special”.
