Projected Participation

The WIC Projected Participation displays the projected participation for total, women, infants and children by fiscal month for a given fiscal year. The calculation uses factors on Annual Budget Factors screen and the values derived from the Three Year Weighted Average page. Once the estimated starting participation and annual participation inflation rate are entered (on the Annual Budgeting Factors page), the system will be able to calculate the new annual participation target goal, and the monthly estimated participation for total, women, infants and children.

Note: Three Year Weighted Average page is a pre-requisite calculation in deriving values displayed in the WIC Projected Participation Estimator grid.

The top Estimated Starting Participation portion of the page is the starting numbers that are used throughout the entire table. The Estimated Starting Participation Monthly and Annual Participation Inflation Rate (%) fields come straight from the values entered for the same fiscal year in the Starting Monthly Caseload Participation and Annual PT Inflation Rate fields on the Annual Budgeting Factors page. The annual field is simply the combination of the previous two fields.

The bottom Projected Participation grid is a display of projected participation values that will be used in projecting caseload, food costs, and rebates. The grid displays a monthly breakdown of caseload estimates for the selected fiscal year. The weighted average % column comes directly from the three-year weighted average page populated for the same fiscal year. These values are then calculated against the annual estimated participation to arrive at the monthly projected total participation.

The Calculated Women, Infant and Children Participation % columns are calculated based on the individual WIC Category (Women, Infant, Child) participation for the month for the previous 3 years divided by the total participation for the same month over the previous 3 years.
